We have already seen a small but proud platformer with an extremely interesting concept built on dizzying jumps and stealth. It’s about the critics of the project Gunpoint, who developed one person – PC Gamer reviewer Tom Francis (Tom Francis). Ronin It is largely similar to this game: the action also takes place in the near future, and the main character can also secretly eliminate enemies, abduct important data from computers, crawl along the walls and ceiling and jump over long distances. And one person developed this game again – Tomas Vaclavek (Tomasz WaclaWek).
But many Ronin And differs. The main character does not have “hyperstones” for acrobatic exercises (therefore, a jump from a very high height will still be fatal for her), she is able not only to act secretly, but also with a katana to chop enemies into cabbage. And most importantly – this is almost the first in the world … step -by -step platformer.
There were only two of them ..
The main character Ronin – A fragile girl on a motorcycle obsessed with a thirst for revenge. To accomplish her Wendetta, she must consistently eliminate the five leaders of a certain evil corporation. For what? What they did to her? Here is clearly a very personal and very tragic story ..
And very Cyberpanka. In the background, tall skyscrapers, rain, and you are fighting with some powerful corporation and breaking its computer networks with data to get to the next victim. At all, Ronin – Very stylish and atmospheric platformer. This is the first thing that catches the eye.
The second you pay attention to is how our motorcyclist jumps with a katana. As in any platform, you need to ride here constantly, but for this it is not used a “gap” or some other key, but a mouse-you must specify the jump path with it. Moreover, at this moment, the game is pause.
Moreover, right during the jump, you can once again click the mouse to adjust the direction in flight or attach the hook-cat somewhere to the ceiling or to the wall-at this moment the pause is turned on again. Let go – and again there is a real time: you continue the flight, run along the corridor, climb the wall.
A step -by -step killer
But if you were noticed by the guards, the game completely goes into step -by -step mode. Moreover, both you and they perform the action at the same time. Enemies, as a rule, want to shoot a girl in a helmet or chop katana – if there are a samurai in the level at the level. The direction of their attacks is marked with red lines. And your task is to kill or push from the high height of all opponents (and even better push through the window directly onto the bare wires) and at the same time not to be on the line of defeat. After all, one shot or one blow – and that’s it, we start with the last “checkpoint”.
We have to constantly jump in different directions, knocking off opponents from their feet, using a hook hook, sitting the guards behind their backs, falling a kite from the ceiling-in general, in every possible way sophisticated. In addition, there are special tricks. If only the opportunity to hit the katana or throw it in the enemy right in flight (then you have to choose it), then over time, other abilities, for example, deafening shurikens or instant teleport to the enemy (again knocking him down),. And after some time, on a pause, when the heroine hung over a bunch of guards, you will think what is better to do-throw a katana in that teleport to the samurai in the far corner or throw shurikens at the same time in two.
True, in order to open new techniques, you need to earn a point of abilities based on the results of the level. And this will turn out only if you fulfill all three conditions: kill all enemies, do not raise the alarm (some securities try to cause help, so they need to be eliminated first of all) and do not kill a single civilian one – they like to panic at the sight of youtelephone.
Secretive restrictions
But what about Stlas, you ask? Indeed, there is the possibility of secretive passage – it is often easier not to cut step by step, but in real time to crawl under the ceiling and hang guards on a noose or distract them using holographic
lures – these abilities are also allowed to develop, for example, to learn to teleport between baits.
However, in many situations, it is simply physically that it will not be unnoticed – when, for example, to get into a room stuffed with security, you can only break the window in the jump. Therefore, most often in Ronin You will still fight in step-by-step mode. Well, fans of the “Quiet killer” style may well grumble. Moreover, control in such step-by-step fights is specific-sometimes it is not easy to set the right direction of the jump and accurately throw the hook-cat. As a result, it turns out a very complex, almost hardcore platformer, and not everyone has enough nerves to go further than two levels.
On the other hand, in this combination of stealth and step -by -step acrobatic fights and the main gameplay find of the author of the game. And this concept looks really very interesting. And when you get used to management, learn new abilities and begin to rush in levels in the graceful deadly vortex (albeit with stops), leaving the mountains of corpses, glass fragments and chopped hands with radio -clamped by radio – then you will get it from Ronin A lot of pleasure.
